Description

This is an excerpt from the Golden Jubilee of Basketball Souvenir Magazine that was published by the Naismith Memorial Committee (in charge of setting up the future Basketball Hall Fame) in 1941 for the 50th anniversary of the creation of the game. The magazine contains articles from, by Raymond P. Kaighn, fellow participant in the first game Thomas Duncan Patton, and coaches Forrest "Fogg" Allen, and John Bunn. There are many other articles and pictures talking about basketball, its spread around the world, changes in rules, impact on society and physical fitness by many of the major players, coaches and commentators of the day. This excerpt contains Kaighn’s article "Jim Naismith, the Man.” Kaighn writes about his experiences with Naismith on the football team together, the invention of basketball, and the importance of building the basketball hall of fame to honor Naismith and the virtues which his invention aims to teach.
