The First Game
William R. Chase is best known for scoring the first basket in the history of basketball.
The class of 18 was divided into two teams of nine.
They played two halves of ten minutes each.
In what was described as the players playing hero ball, there wasn't a lot of passing as players tried to be the one to score.
It was not until the final few seconds of the game when Chase put the first basket in.
The game ended with a score of 1-0
Chase was also a member of the school's undefeated championship team in the spring of 1892.
This squad, often referred to as the "First Basketball Team," featured nine of the original 18 men who played the first game of "basket ball" (then two words) in the secretarial class at the International YMCA Training School in 1891, though not all of them were on the same team.
